Mobile County Public Schools are now better equipped to stay alert during severe weather thanks to new NOAA weather radios. The Mobile County Emergency Manageme
nt Agency distributed those radios to school leaders today. It's part of the EMA's commitment to community safety.
It's all about receiving timely information. So, when the national weather service here in Mobile issues a tornado warning, severe thunderstorm warning, we send that out and it immediately goes to the weather radios. If the school can have that information quickly and timely it will be able to then take the proper precautions and safety measures for their students that might be in the path of the storm,” says NWS Mobile Meteorologist in Charge, Jason Beaman.
“Within seconds when those warnings hit those radios and you'll know exactly what you're dealing with and within seconds you can make those critical decisions and start moving kids into a safe location,” says Evans. “It's all about information, receiving that information and quickly acting upon that information,” says Beaman.
