Summary Disney has put Moana 2 through some sizeable changes leading up to its 2024 release, a significant risk that will hopefully pay off. There's no question that the first Moana movie was a massive success, so it's no surprise that the hero of Motunui's story is being continued. However, it seems that the House of Mouse has been a little indecisive about how it would go about this, which makes the future of Moana 2 a little concerning.
We were impressed with what we saw, and we knew it deserved a theatrical release. Though Iger seems confident that Moana's past success is an indicator that this will happen, whether he is correct depends on the quality of the sequel's story.
With 2023's The Little Mermaid underperforming at the box office, fatigue is setting in for Disney's live-action remakes. That, coupled with potential Moana fatigue between Moana 2 and the remake, could spell problems for both films. Hopefully, Iger and co. are onto something, and the movies enchant fans just as much as the original.
