The former speaker of the Western Cape legislature, Masizole Mnqasela, is expected to launch his political party this weekend. | MarvinCharles_

During a press briefing on Thursday, Mnqasela, who left the DA on bitter terms, said he was approached by community activists and leaders to start a political alternative for people who are fed-up with the ANC and DA.

"I decided to take up this new and refreshed mandate and part ways with the DA, not only because of the denialists in the DA who deny the pains that still exist in our country, caused by colonialism and apartheid, but also because South Africans are desperate for change. They are desperate for a viable alternative," he said.

Mnqasela said Mitchells Plain was one of the crucial constituencies the party would focus on during the upcoming national and provincial elections.
