MMDA: Private vehicles may use EDSA yellow lane as Metro Manila transitions to GCQ COVID19Quarantine

MANILA - Private vehicles may now use the yellow lane on EDSA previously reserved for city buses, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said Monday, as more vehicles traversed the thoroughfare with the easing of travel restrictions."'Yung dati po nating yellow lane nasa rightmost lane po 'yan, para lang po 'yan sa buses noon. Paalala po sa ating mga pribadong motorista puwede niyo na po gamitin 'yan," she said in a virtual press briefing.

Prior to the coronavirus crisis in the Philippines, yellow lanes were only limited for use of city buses. Private vehicles crossing the yellow line is considered a traffic offense. Heavy traffic and challenges in taking public transport greeted Filipinos returning to work on Monday as the National Capital Region transitioned to a more relaxed general community quarantine after nearly 80 days of a strict lockdown.

Number coding, which bars private vehicles from roads one day a week depending on their license plate numbers, remains lifted. The MMDA earlier said that it would begin implementing a "modified" coding scheme this month, wherein vehicles that are on coding can traverse the roads of Metro Manila as long as there are at least 2 persons on board.
