MMDA Formally Proposes Two-Day Number Coding, 4-Day Workweek To Ease Traffic

The Metro Manila Development Authority has formally proposed a new number coding scheme that will ban cars on EDSA for two days. The proposal has already been submitted to the policy-making Metro Manila Council, and once adopted, may start as early as May 1, 2022. Other reports suggest that it may take effect after the May 9, 2022 elections.

Under the revised Unified Vehicle Volume Reduction Program , the MMDA says vehicular traffic will be reduced by an average of 40 percent or around 1,174 vehicles daily. The proposed number coding program will have private vehicles stay off EDSA from 5 PM to 7 PM based on the last digit of their plate or conduction sticker numbers:
