Debating the budget of Parliament on Tuesday, political parties expressed outrage at the delays and the costs involved - saying it wasn't setting a good precedent.

CAPE TOWN - National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula said she's "mad" that suspended Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's impeachment inquiry has still not been concluded.

Furthermore, Maphisa-Nqakula ordered the impeachment committee to produce a preliminary report for discussion by the house. The Section 194 process that started last July has stalled for the past two months over funding for Mkhwebane's legal representatives. Inkatha Freedom Party chief whip Narend Singh said members of Parliament accused by Mkhwebane’s husband of bribery must be investigated.

“We cannot just sit back and allow serious allegations like these to go. It does not happen, no. Let us inquire,” he said. This comes after allegations emerged that three high-profile parliamentary officials, including the chairperson of the inquiry, Qubudile Dyantyi, tried to exhort money from Mkhwebane in exchange for her inquiry being stopped.“We cannot allow Parliament to be held ransom. It will not happen, this inquiry will not go away.
