The uMkhonto weSizwe Party believes the use of 'government of national unity' is unfair as some parties are not part of it.

Former president Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe Party is not backing down in its case against the SABC, pertaining to the broadcaster’s use of the term 'government of national unity' when referring to the current national government.

The GNU — which is comprised of the ANC, DA, IFP and eight other political parties — was announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa shortly after the May general elections, which produced no outright winner nationally and in provinces such as KZN. Since Ramaphosa’s announcement, several media houses, including the SABC, have been using the phrase 'government of national unity' when referring to the current national government.

However, the MK Party — which at this stage has taken issue with only the SABC, given that it is the national broadcaster — said referring to the current national government as the GNU was misleading as some parties, including the MK Party and the EFF, were not part of the current national government.
