With TreVeyon Henderson sidelined, Ohio State turned to Miyan Williams to find success running the ball in the first half.
With TreVeyon Henderson out with an undisclosed injury against the Nittany Lions, Chip Trayanum got the start alongside Kyle McCord in the backfield. He ran three times for 10 yards, but gave up a sack in pass protection that forced an Ohio State punt. Williams entered the next series.
He got to work right away. Williams picked up runs of 4 and 10 yards on his first series, then added two more carries for 10 more yards to close the first quarter with four rushes and 24 yards. His season-high for rushing entering Saturday was 25 yards. Williams did his real dirty work on Ohio State's lone touchdown drive, however. He pounded Penn State's defense with eight carries for 35 yards, capping all of it with a tough 2-yard touchdown tumble. All told, Williams had 13 carries for 52 yards and one touchdown in the first half. Trayanum did not play in the first half after Williams' initial entrance.
Entering Saturday Williams hadn't seen a much bigger role than the team's No. 3 running back when Henderson was healthy, seeing some action near the goal line. He had just 25 carries for 96 yards for 96 yards and two touchdowns.
