Presidents at Harvard and MIT say they will suspend students who refuse to leave the protest encampments that have been operating for more than two weeks.

"This prolonged use of MIT property as a venue for protest, without permission, especially on an issue with such sharp disagreement, is no longer safely sustainable," said MIT president Sally Kornbluth in aOfficials at MIT told students they had until 2:30 p.m. to voluntarily leave Kresge Lawn, where a coalition of pro-Palestinian groups have been camping out for more than two weeks.
The school said any student who remained past that deadline would be suspended from campus"lasting at least through Institute commencement activities" in addition being referred to the Committee on Discipline for potential further punishment. The suspension would also keep impacted students from participating in any academic activities, including taking final exams, conducting research, or walking at graduation.
