Mississippi has once again declined to apply for a federal program that provides grocery assistance to low-income children during the summer months, missing the deadline for the second consecutive year. This decision means hundreds of thousands of eligible children will miss out on vital food support. The program, known as SUN Bucks, offers $40 per month to each eligible child. Mississippi, facing high rates of childhood hunger, is the only state to forgo this program.
