The remains of a woman who went missing three months ago in Humboldt County were found by a boy collecting what he thought were animal bones.
The Humboldt County coroner’s office confirmed that the skeletal remains found last week were those of Patricia Ribeiro. She was 71 years old when she disappeared, having last been seen Aug. 18 walking along Highway 36 about three miles from her rural home east of Bridgeville. Searches with dogs and aerial support turned up no sign of her then.
On Friday, Nov. 11, the sheriff’s office was called by a family who had been working on their property along the same stretch of Highway 36. According to the news site, one of their dogs brought a bone to the 13-year-old boy, who then found more near a rock outcropping. He was picking up what he thought were animal bones when he found a human skull.
The sheriff’s office said foul play is not currently suspected in Ribeiro’s death. An examination of the remains is scheduled for Nov. 17.
