A search and rescue operation is underway to find five missing people from a tourist submersible that disappeared while heading to see the Titanic wreckage in the North Atlantic.
Retired Navy Commodore Peter Scott said the submersibles are not designed or built for such “extreme depths”.
“I think submersibles have for quite some time been used in more limited circumstances like for reef tourism … this is really a level beyond,” Mr Scott told Sky News Australia.
