The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center has found 31-year-old Grant Akaran after being reported missing Sunday, according to Alaska State Troopers.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center has found 31-year-old Grant Akaran after being reported missing Sunday, according to Alaska State Troopers. Akaran was located by a non-hoist-capable RCC helicopter, which was unable to land due to ground conditions, troopers say.

He was not injured. As of Monday, ground crews are making their way to his location in an attempt to rescue him. According to Andrea Shorty, a member of the Search and Rescue team in Marshall, people from St. Mary, Pilot Station, and Marshall have been looking for Akaran. In total, she said, over 20 people have been searching for him. “Because that’s the way of our life. We grew up helping each others and even they’re from a different village, we’ll still step up and help,” Akaran said As of Tuesday afternoon, Shorty told Alaska’s News Source that two helicopters are en route to meet Akaran. One helicopter, she said, has the ability to reel down and pick up people. The other helicopter, she said, has survivor supplies on board. Shorty was unable to confirm what organization the helicopters were through. According to Akaran’s family, he is an avid hunter and loves spending his time outside. His father, Theodore Akaran, told Alaska’s News Source that he has had a lot of mixed emotions since his son went missing. His father also added that he is thankful for everyone participating in Akaran’s rescue efforts and that his family is praying. “Thank you for all the communities and all the people that’s been sending prayers through social media, sending prayers through text messages, sending prayers through phone calls, and just, you know, being there and letting us know that we’re not alone in this,” Theodore Akaran said. According to Austin McDaniel of the Alaska State Troopers, multiple rescue efforts are underway. Weather, he said, is impacting efforts. Akaran left Pilot Station around 9 a.m. Saturday, troopers say. AST was notified about 24 hours later that he had not returned as scheduled. He was on a “2019 Ski-Doo snowmachine and was traveling up the Chuilnak River to hunt for moose sheds,” troopers said.Federal government may seek removal of individual Alaskans from state voter rolls
