Fairfield police confirmed on Tuesday the death of a mother reported missing around Valentine’s Day, her husband later arrested in connection with her suspected killing.

DNA testing revealed that burned remains discovered in rural Fresno County on Friday belong to Anu Anand Hobson, 53, of Fairfield, officials said. The remains, found with the aid of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, are in the custody of the Fresno County Coroner’s Office and will be transferred to the Solano County Coroner’s Office.“Our thoughts are with Anu’s family as they receive this heartbreaking news,” officials said in a press statement.

Anu and her husband, 61-year-old Gregory Grant Hobson, were last seen Feb. 13, their silver-colored 2021 Toyota Tacoma spotted on FLOCK cameras a day later near Elk Grove Boulevard in Sacramento. The couple was reported missing Feb. 15 and Gregory was arrested Feb. 16 near the intersection of Walters Road and East Tabor Avenue in Fairfield.

Though Anu was not found at the time, police advised that “based on evidence collected thus far, police believe she has been killed.”
