Authorities say the search for an Oklahoma Senate candidate came to a tragic end. On Wednesday, the Beckham County Sheriff's Office began asking for the public.
Oklahoma Senate Candidate Barry Christian, 54, was found dead on Thursday after he was declared missing, according to multiple reports. On Thursday afternoon, officials with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation confirmed that Christian's truck had been found in a rural area on the side of the road, south of Erick.
A short time later, Christian's daughter told Sinclair Broadcast Group that a body was discovered inside the truck.
“At this time, the circumstances surrounding Mr. Christian’s death remain under investigation,” a press release distributed by his campaign read. “Authorities have not yet released additional details pending notification of all family members and further examination. ”At this point, it will be up to the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office to confirm the identity of the deceased and their cause/manner of death. Christian was last seen on Tuesday and failed to appear for a scheduled meeting.
