The ten-day search for a missing 24-year-old student ended in a shallow grave in Imus, Cavite where authorities exhumed his remains on Tuesday.

According to Raffy Tima’s report on “24 Oras”, the body of John Matthew Salilig, a chemical engineering student at Adamson University, was found more than a week after he was last seen alive.

Biñan police said hazing suspects whom they invited for investigation pointed to where Salilig had been buried. Investigation showed that Salilig went through the welcoming rites of the Tau Gamma Phi chapter in the university on the afternoon of February 19. He was already a member of the chapter in Zamboanga.

The victim reportedly was no longer in good condition in the middle of the rites. They were already on their way back to Manila when the victim died.“’Yun ang masakit sa ‘min kasi sana baka naagapan pa ‘yung kapatid namin… Kung ayaw nila tumanggap ng responsibility o iniwan na lang nila doon and then let it be, ‘yung hospital na kumontak sa amin,” said the victim’s brother John Michael, who’s also a member of the Tau Gamma Phi.
