A search is underway for 1-year-old Kahleb Collins after his parents were killed in a car crash. Investigators are trying to locate Kahleb, who was not with his family at the time of the accident.
Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies are searching for a missing 1-year-old child after they say his parents were involved in a deadly wreck a week earlier.Steven Collins and his 2-year-old daughter Ryleigh were killed when their 2020 Toyota Tacoma left the roadway and struck a tree on the morning of Dec. 8. The crash happened at Fayette County 73 near Morris Cemetery Road. It also sent the child’s mother, Wendi Bailey, to the hospital with critical injuries.
The sheriff’s office says the following day they learned the couple had another child, a 1-year-old boy, Kahleb Rowan Collins. Kahleb was not with his family at the time of the crash, and investigators are trying to find him.“Please let me know where he’s at and if he’s okay, so we can find out what’s going on,” Dwayne Collins told WBRC in a phone interview Monday. Collins says he had not spoken to his brother Steven recently, and only just discovered Sunday that his nephew was missing. “The whole family...we just don’t know. Just please let us know where he’s at and bring him back to the family.”On Dec. 17, ALEA issued an Emergency Missing Child Alert for Kaleb.The state’s District Attorney’s Office sent the following news release on Thursday, Dec. 19 regarding this case. It was as follows: The District Attorney’s Office is assisting the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation with their ongoing investigation into the whereabouts of Kahleb Collins. This case has been the top priority of all agencies involved since a vehicle crash brought his disappearance to our attention 11 days ago. During that time, we have made a great deal of progress in the investigation and expect to release further information in the upcoming days.
