NHL: San Jose Sharks now start a four-game road trip on Tuesday against the Anaheim Ducks
San Jose Sharks defensemen Jan Rutta and Mario Ferraro battle for the puck during the first period of their game against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, in San Jose, Calif. SAN JOSE – The San Jose Sharks knew they needed a response after they ended their recent road trip with a pair of lackluster performances.
The Sharks largely dominated the second period as they outshot the Avalanche 13-6. But they allowed an even-strength goal to Joel Kiviranta midway through the third period and an empty-net goal to Cale Makar with 1:37 to go. Eklund was a scratch for Friday’s game played in Winnipeg after he played the first two games of the road trip. He was in the lineup Tuesday against the Dallas Stars in the first game of the trip, but did not practice the following day in Chicago. He played through the injury Thursday night against the Blackhawks in a 4-2 Sharks loss and had two assists in over 19 minutes of ice time.
With those two coming back into the lineup, Givani Smith and Klim Kostin were scratched. Jack Thompson also replaced Matt Benning on the Sharks’ third defense pair, playing alongside Henry Thrun. “We didn’t have much of that, obviously, in Winnipeg. So hopefully we can kind of get that thing going back again. We did the first three games.”Macklin Celebrini has started skating again, Warsofsky said, although he remains week to week with a lower-body injury and has no specific timetable for a return.
