Miranda Lambert has played the Grand Ole Opry plenty of times. But her next appearance marks the first time she’ll be leaving the Opry House holding an award.

The 40-year-old country singer — who grew up in Van Alstyne, north of Dallas, and Lindale, in East Texas — will receive the Country Icon Award on Sept. 26 during the second annual People’s Choice Country Awards.The show will be telecast live from Nashville on both Peacock and NBC. No surprise there. In 2022, NBCUniversal and its investment partner paid $293 million for a 30% stake in the Opry.
Beyoncé, Zach Bryan and East Texas singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves top the list of nominees. Shania Twain will host the telecast. Performers have yet to be announced.. Thor Christensen is a former pop music critic for The Dallas Morning News and The Milwaukee Journal whose work has appeared in The New York Times and several books, including Musichound: The Essential Album Guide .
