Archie, a 10-year-old German Shepherd Dog/Basset Hound mix, was initially diagnosed with a cancerous oral mass but recovered thanks to a second opinion and antibiotics. Now healthy and ready for adoption, Archie is searching for a loving forever home in Central Ohio.

Archie, a 10-year-old German Shepherd Dog/Basset Hound mix, has overcome a serious health scare and is now ready for adoption, according to Stop the Suffering Animal Rescue. When Archie arrived at the rescue, he was in a desperate state, bleeding painfully and pawing at his mouth. Initially diagnosed with a cancerous oral mass, comfort care was recommended.

However, after showing improvement in his foster home, a second opinion revealed that Archie didn't have cancer but an infected oral abscess likely caused by an embedded foreign object. The antibiotics prescribed as part of his comfort care regimen completely cleared up the abscess. Aside from some nerve damage causing his tongue to hang out adorably, Archie now has a clean bill of health, is fully vaccinated, and neutered. Archie is described as a gentle, happy dog that gets along well with other dogs and children. He is fully housebroken and well-behaved, though he prefers not to be crated, and isn't a fan of cats. Archie enjoys playing with toys, relaxing outside, and going for walks. Archie was initially found when he wandered into a Dollar General store in Kentucky. Now, he is looking for a forever home in Central Ohio where he can continue to thrive. In support of their mission, Stop the Suffering Animal Rescue is hosting its 8th annual 5K run/1-mile walk on Saturday, May 3, at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park in Galloway, Ohio. Participants can join in person or virtually, with race packets including a t-shirt and finisher medal. The event will feature several community vendors, and sponsorship opportunities are available to support the rescue's 2025 goals
