Ryan Weathers’ move to Triple-A El Paso wasn’t at all a demotion.
It was to keep his arm stretched out and the left-hander began to rebuild his innings base over four shutout innings in Triple-A El Paso’sThe 23-year-old Weathers struck out three and allowed one hit. He did, however, walk five batters and threw just 33 of his 66 pitches for strikes in his first appearance for El Paso this year.Weathers opened the season in the Padres’ rotation, throwing 16 innings over his first three starts .
But after five off-days in May, the Padres will again have longer stretches of consecutive games and Weathers, now that he’s starting again in the minors, figures to be among their options if they choose to use a sixth starter for pockets of the season.Preston Tucker hit his third homer.
