Rounding up the action at the Padres’ minor league affiliates
Left-hander Jose Castillo is up to 13 1/3 innings without allowed an earned run after a scoreless frame inReturning from Tommy John surgery, Castillo re-signed on a minor league deal with the Padres and began his climb back to the majors with by allowing an unearned run in 5 1/3 innings at low Single-A Lake Elsinore.
He’s since thrown eight shutout inning with El Paso and has struck out 14 against three walks thus far in the minors. Castillo was one of eight El Paso pitchers to throw in a bullpen game, although right-hander Evan Miller allowing a run in 1 1/3 innings to start the game was enough to take the loss when El Paso’s four-run ninth-inning rally came up short.Third baseman Matt Batten went 2-for-5 with his ninth homer.
Left fielder Brett Sullivan went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored and center fielder Luis Liberato went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a walk.
