Rounding up the action at the Padres' minor league affiliates
Joe Musgrove threw 85 pitches in his first rehab start on Thursday, allowing three runs – two earned – in 4 1/3 innings in Triple-A El Paso’sMusgrove struck out six, scattered five hits, a walk and three hit batters. He threw 52 pitches for strikes and also committed a throwing error.
Musgrove is working his way back from a broken toe. He’ll huddle with the team before determining whether he’ll need another rehab start or can fold back into the rotation next week.“He’d have to feel great,” Padres manager Bob Melvin said Thursday afternoon from Atlanta. “Obviously, the toe’s the biggest thing. See how that feels afterwards, see how his arm does, see where the velocity was later on in the outing. So we have a lot of things to consider. Obviously, we’d love to get him back.
Catcher Brett Sullivan hit his first homer and right fielder Brandon Dixon went 2-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base.
