Rounding up the action at the Padres’ minor league affiliates
The Padres’ 23-year-old pitching prospect threw seven no-hit innings before he was lifted in high Single-A Fort Wayne’sLeft-hander Gabriel Morales allowed two hits in two scoreless innings after the left-handed Gasser’s exit.
Gasser struck out eight batters, allowed one runner via a walk and threw 55 of his 88 pitches for strikes in lowering his ERA to 4.10 on the season. The victory improved his record to 3-7.overall pick out of Houston last summer, Gasser has struck out 80, walked 20 and penned a 1.21 WHIP through his first 63 2/3 innings this year.MLB.com ranks Gasser No. 8 in the Padres’ system, behind right-hander Reiss Knehr as the best pitching prospect in the system now that MacKenzie Gore has graduated.
Morales has not allowed a run in 11 1/3 innings following a demotion from Double-A San Antonio, where he had a 5.32 ERA in 22 innings.Right fielder Agustin Ruiz drove in four runs on four hits, including his third homer and two doubles. Third baseman Lucas Dunn drove in three runs on three hits, including a double, and center fielder Robert Hassell III and left fielder Corey Rosier both had two hits. Hassell doubled and Rosier tripled.
