Rounding up the action at the Padres’ minor league affiliates
Lake Bachar’s return from Tommy John surgery couldn’t have gone much better. The rest of Double-A San Antonio’s pitchers took the baton from there.
In his first appearance since 2019, Bachar struck out two over three no-hit innings and three relievers followed suit to complete a no-hitter in aRight-hander Moises Lugo earned the win with three strikeouts over three no-hit innings. Right-hander Carlos Belen walked a batter over two innings of work and right-hander Kevin Kopps struck out a batter and walked batter in completing the combined no-hitter.
Baseball America ranked the 26-year-old Bachar as high as No. 29 in the Padres system entering the 2020 season. He went 8-4 with a 3.98 ERA, 126 strikeouts and a 1.41 WHIP in 2019 at Double-A Amarillo, which included a stretch in which he struck out 61 and posted a 2.27 ERA over 63 1/3 innings over two months.Sunday’s no-hitter was the 15in Missions history and their first since Logan Allen and Jason Jester teamed up for one in 2018.
At the plate, designated hitter Esteury Ruiz went 1-for-3 with a walk to extend his on-base streak to 39 games. Center fielder Korry Howell went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs and first baseman Yorman Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.San Antonio is 15-18.
