State legislator Brad Tabke defended his posts on X, writing that it “is protected by the Constitution.“

Minnesota state Representative Brad Tabke, a Democrat, faced backlash from conservatives after posting the locations of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on social media. Newsweek reached out to Tabke’s office via email for comment.

Why It Matters ICE is facing growing scrutiny over its tactics following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis by an ICE agent. The Department of Homeland Security has said that Good sought to weaponize her vehicle against the officer and that he feared for his life. But critics have disputed that characterization, arguing that video footage of the shooting shows she was attempting to drive away at the time and that the shooting was unnecessary. As President Donald Trump’s administration ramps up immigration enforcement, individuals across the country have posted to social media when and where ICE agents are active as an effort to warn migrants about their presence. Critics, however, have argued that doing so puts ICE agents in danger and could disrupt federal operations. What To Know Tabke, a Democrat who represents a suburban community outside of Minneapolis in the state legislature, has posted updates of ICE locations on his X profile in recent days. In one post on Thursday, for instance, he wrote, “ICE speeding through parking lots in Southbridge by Panera and Holiday. Be careful everyone.” Earlier that day, he wrote that there had been “many sightings at schools and daycare in Shakopee, PL, and Savage today. SCHOOLS AND DAYCARES.” The posts by Tabke have drawn scrutiny from Republicans, who remain supportive of ICE despite ongoing concerns. Federal agents confront protesters in Minneapolis on January 9, 2026. Dustin Grage, a columnist at conservative outlet Townhall, wrote on X, “Minnesota State Rep Brad Tabke is alerting the public to ICE agent locations one day after an agent was assaulted and federal vehicles were looted for firearms and sensitive documents. He narrowly won his battleground district by just 15 votes in 2024.” Reverend Jordan Wells, a pastor and conservative commentator, also criticized the decision to share ICE locations. “This isn’t ‘activism.’ This is a **federal crime** — aiding & abetting, obstruction of justice, and endangering law enforcement,” he wrote. Some conservatives have argued that posting the location of ICE agents may be a criminal act. Reuters reported in September that many legal experts view ICE surveillance as lawful so long as it does not interfere with agents’ work. Electronic Frontier Foundation attorney Sophia Cope told Reuters at the time that it can get “dicey” when activists are “recording ICE and telling people where they are with the intent to have people avoid ICE or have people physically interfere with ICE.” Internet personality Mario Nawfal said on X that posting agents’ locations is “putting lives at risk.“ Others, however, disputed that Tabke had done anything wrong. X user @esjesjesj, who has more than 150,000 followers, responded to a post about the legislator from Libs of TikTok, writing, “This is not what doxxing is you f****** moron.” Tabke responded to critics on X Thursday afternoon. “Thank you to all of the people reaching out to offer assistance, prayers, and thanks for the work that is happening to reduce harm in our community. This work is protected by the Constitution of the United States of America that I have sworn to uphold,” he wrote. What People Are Saying Minnesota Attorney Nathan Hansen wrote on X: “Rep. Brad Tabke needs to be charged by US Attorney Dan Rosen immediately. He should be taken off the streets and held in custody until after trial.” Conservative pundit Eric Daughterty wrote on X: “BREAKING: Americans are demanding the resignation and ARREST of Minnesota Rep. Brad Tabke after he posted real-time locations of ICE agents This Democrat is a disgrace.” Minnesota state Representative Brad Tabke wrote on X: “I know not everyone agrees with Constitutional Observation. And that is ok. Everyone does want bad guys to face punishment. It is clear that more and more people every day in Minnesota do not agree with the tactics ICE is using to meet that goal. Today I wanted people to feel just how intense the onslaught is from the federal govt causing chaos, fear, taking people off the streets, checking papers on nothing but racial profiling, terrorizing schools, hurting business, following buses, and so much more.” What Happens Next Debate over ICE is likely to continue as the administration’s immigration enforcement ramps up. Minnesota has sued the Trump administration to block the use of immigration agents in the state after the DHS deployed more agents to Minneapolis.
