In the wake of a tragic shooting at a Catholic school in Minnesota that claimed the lives of two young children.

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - AUGUST 27: Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is embraced after speaking to the media following a mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School on August 27, 2025 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

According to Minneapolis Police, a gunman fired through the windows of the Annunciation Church at worshippers sitting in pews during a Catholic school Mass, killing two children and injuring at least 17 others. The gunman reportedly died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. at a Catholic school in Minnesota that claimed the lives of two young children, the mayor of Minneapolis emphasized the need for action beyond the customary "thoughts and prayers" often expressed after such incidents.Jen Psaki, a host on MSNBC and former Biden White House press secretary, expressed her frustration on the social media platform X, stating, "Prayer is not freaking enough. Prayers do not make parents feel safe sending their kids to school. Prayer does not bring these kids back. Enough with the thoughts and prayers." The Trump administration previously criticized such sentiments as disrespectful, particularly when young children were killed while praying in a church. "It's utterly disrespectful to deride the power of prayer in this country and its disrespectful to the millions of Americans of faith," the administration said. "If you are a politician or your immediate commentator and two beautiful babies just got murdered while praying, and your polity ticks, forcing you to continue prayer in response to it, you ought to get new politics because something very wrong has gone on inside your soul." Psaki responded, acknowledging that while prayer is comforting, it is not sufficient. She said, "Prayer alone is not enough to prevent and end the crisis of gun violence in America." House Speaker Mike Johnson also commented, suggesting that the focus should be on mental health. "There are a lot of commonsense solutions, things that can be done to protect children at schools and in churches that do not involve taking away the constitutional rights of law-abiding American citizens," Johnson said. As Congress prepares to return to Capitol Hill next week, Democrats are advocating for new gun control measures, while Republicans remain unlikely to challenge the Second Amendment.
