'100,000 completed tests a day was pledged. Instead testing has gone down for the fourth day in a row.'

Today Shadow Health Secretary Jonathan Ashworth said the government needs to ‘explain’ why the number of tests being carried out has been continuously below 100,000 for the last four days.He said: ‘100,000 completed tests a day was pledged. Instead testing has gone down for the fourth day in a row. Testing should be going up, not be on this downward trajectory. Ministers need to explain why they are failing to deliver the testing promised.

Labour leader Keir Starmer pressed the Prime Minister on why the current number has fallen back from 100,000, asking what was ‘so special’ about April 30 that the target was met on that day.Deputy leader Angela Rayner also added that the ‘consistent downward trend’ was ‘really not good enough’, and did not ‘inspire confidence to start easing lockdown’.
