A belt of extreme heat crossing Australia will mean temperatures will spike on Thursday, and again during the weekend – for the second time in as many weeks, writes Sky News Australia Meteorologist Alison Osborne.

In fact, Sydney is on track to record more days at or above 30C this March compared to all of last season, when the city recorded only five such days - none of which were in December.

The source of this heat is the baking landscape of Western Australia’s Pilbara and interior regions, currently basking in daily sunshine. Australia's east coast is set to bask in a searing heatwave to end the week, writes Sky News Australia meteorologist Alison Osborne. Pictured are beachgoers at Sydney's Coogee Beach. National Indigenous Australians Agency ‘already doing’ what Albanese wants Voice to doNational Indigenous Australians Agency ‘already doing’ what Albanese wants Voice to doSky News host Andrew Bolt says we already have a “massive” organisation – the National Indigenous Australians Agency – doing exactly what Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says is the main reason for the Voice. “Albanese keeps repeating ... that the reason we need a Voice is that it will mean Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are consulted on the decisions which affect them. Nothing more, nothing less,” Mr Bolt said. “But here's the crazy thing, that is almost word-for-word the mission statement of the National Indigenous Australians Agency that we already give $2 billion a year to. “Now Albanese should know this, he should know he already has this huge bureaucracy doing exactly what he says is the main job for the Voice that he wants, consulting Aborigines about things that affect them.' Mr Bolt said we should stick with the National Indigenous Australians Agency and 'save ourselves the grief, the danger and the cash of creating a Voice as well'. “After all, this agency says it's already doing what Albanese says he wants for the Voice.'

Rise in Australians’ energy bills later this year ‘unacceptable’ from LaborRise in Australians’ energy bills later this year ‘unacceptable’ from LaborThe price rise in Australians’ power bills expected in July is “unacceptable” from the Albanese government who promised a reduction in electricity prices, according to Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume. Power bills will rise this winter under the Australian Energy Regulator's draft determination to the nation's electricity price safety net. “This is affecting the entire east coast, and this is unacceptable from a government that promised a reduction in power prices of $275,” Ms Hume said. “Now Australians – they're going to pay for this, this winter. “I fear for those older Australians or those on low incomes that will simply have to turn off the heater during winter because they can’t afford the energy bills – that's the human cost to Labor’s failure to manage the energy market.”
