. "School used to be a safe place. Now I was scared to go. I didn’t know who I could trust — who I could turn to."," she continued. "It’s a terrifying feeling to look at your phone and see that the messages that people are sending you are filled with anger, hate and even threats. So many of these are from strangers. In her UN speech, Millie said her support system of family and friends has helped her get through bullying in the past. Since not everyone has such a robust network, Millie offered advice to anyone experiencing bullying who feels alone in the experience. "Somewhere in the world today — right now — a teenaged girl is being bullied online. She’s scared. She’s vulnerable. She feels alone," Millie said. "My message to her is this: you are not alone. There are people who care about you. There are people who will listen if you reach out for help. You have rights."
She also called for social media to be a place where people can come together and feel support, rather than being torn down. "I’m convinced that social media doesn’t have to be a place of fear, bullying and harassment," she said.
