Ten years after launching this tuition experiment, the Lancaster County-based public university next year is going back to charging students the same rate whether they take 12 credit up to 18 credits.

The idea behind this model that was copied or considered being copied by several other system universities is it would attract more students and avoid students taking 12 credits from subsidizing the education of those taking 18 credits.

“This move will help our students and their families struggling with the rising cost of living,” said Millersville University President Daniel Wubah in a statement. “Going back to a flat rate tuition model will allow our students to take 15 credits per semester at the cost of 12. By taking 15 credits every semester, students can graduate in 4 years. This move will make us more competitive to recruit new students and retain current students.

Last year, Indiana University of Pennsylvania reverted back to the flat-rate model after seeing its enrollment dip.among the 10 system schools that still operates a per-credit tuition model.
