Qualified nonprofits can receive grants of up to $2,000 to support arts, education and health programs for local youth.
AKRON, Ohio -- The Millennium Fund for Children is now welcoming grant applications from nonprofit organizations that serve children.
The fund is a permanent endowment formed through a partnership between the Akron Community Foundation and the Akron Beacon Journal/Ohio.com. Each year, a committee of donors recommends grants for children’s programs throughout Summit, Portage, Medina, Stark, Wayne and Cuyahoga counties. In 2023, the fund awarded $61,000 across 36 grants, bringing its total grantmaking to over $1 million since inception, according to a news release.
Recent grants have enabled Red Oak Behavioral Health to provide mental health treatment to underinsured and uninsured children, supported diversity and inclusion workshops by the Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio at Akron Public Schools and furnished the youth therapy room at the rape crisis center.
