A small group from the Navy came to Fairbanks to learn about the community and discuss ways we can benefit each other.
Published: May. 30, 2024 at 12:39 PM AKDTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - Last week a small group from the Navy came up to Fairbanks to learn more about our community and our relationship with the armed forces.
“So the first day that we were here, we spent pretty much all day with the University of Alaska Fairbanks,” said Dr. Sue Goodfellow, the Asst. Deputy Chief of Naval Operations. While at UAF, they spoke with the director of the Museum of the North as well as members of the university’s leadership.
Looking at economics and community involvement, the Navy met with the Rotary Club and the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce to discuss service. “There is a higher propensity for service in Fairbanks and in Alaska in general than there are in a lot of other states and so we wanted to kind of come up here and say what’s the secret sauce,” Goodfellow remarked. They did not limit the topic to military service but also government and community service.
