CNN's Paul Devitt takes us along as he flies from Hong Kong to Australia, where he had to enter quarantine for two weeks and came up with some interesting ways to pass the time
An empty airport. A plane that usually holds over 300 people, taking off with just a few dozen passengers.
After waiting for hours with my bags, I was led by state police and military to an empty bus. No family or friends were waiting and my exact destination was unknown. As it turned out, my quarantine home would be the InterContinental Hotel in Sydney's CBD Central Business District. Room with a view -- but no breeze. One of the hardest parts about quarantining in a hotel room is the lack of fresh air.The day I landed was considered my"Day Zero" by officials, meaning day one didn't actually begin until midnight. So, one could even look at it as 15 days in quarantine.
Families are placed in larger serviced apartments -- when available -- and they are considered to be the fortunate ones as it means they usually get open windows or even balconies.Spending 14 days locked in a tiny room forces you to find creative ways to pass the time, says Devitt of this masked fellow.A continental breakfast arrived at 7 a.m., allowing me to have a morning video chat with family over coffee and cereal.
