Actor Miles Teller shares the story of losing his home to the devastating California wildfires and salvaging a precious family heirloom.
Miles Teller recently revealed the precious family heirloom he managed to save before his and wife Keleigh Teller's home was destroyed by the California wildfires. During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on February 4th, Teller, 37, shared that he was able to grab very little before evacuating. He expressed his disbelief that the fire reached his residential area, noting that they were not surrounded by any brush or flammable vegetation.
The 'Top Gun: Maverick' star confirmed in January that their home was lost in the devastating Palisades Fire, which tragically claimed 12 lives and burned over 23,000 acres. Teller acknowledged to Colbert that coping with the loss of their residence is a day-by-day process. He mentioned saving his late grandfather's watch and decided to wear it for his appearance on the show, highlighting the sentimental value of the heirloom, especially given his grandfather's recent passing.Teller reflected on the rapid pace of the evacuation, stating there were only 90 minutes to 2 hours between the fire's start and his forced departure. He emphasized the fear associated with the fire, contrasting it with hurricanes, which usually provide more warning time. He described witnessing 'pretty chaotic' scenes during the evacuation, including parents frantically rushing with their children to escape the approaching flames. Earlier this week, Teller told E! News that numerous people reached out to offer them shelter following the wildfires. He expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, mentioning how receiving simple gestures like Grateful Dead shirts from fans has been deeply heartwarming. The California wildfires last month impacted many celebrities, with Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, Paris Hilton, Anna Faris, Heidi Montag, and Spencer Pratt all losing their homes in the blaze. Teller shared his anticipation for a temporary distraction later this week, as his favorite NFL team, the Philadelphia Eagles, compete in the 2025 Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Teller family will be rooting against Taylor Swift, who will be cheering for her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, during the game on February 9th. Miles, a lifelong Eagles fan who spent his early childhood just 30 miles from Philadelphia, expressed his excitement to be surrounded by fellow fans in a sea of green.
