Argentinian President Javier Milei delivered a fiery speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, denouncing 'woke ideology' as a dangerous force undermining Western values and societal well-being.
Argentinian President Javier Milei launched a scathing critique of 'woke ideology' during a powerful address at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday. Milei attributed the advancements of Western civilization, emphasizing values like respect for life and liberty, free speech, and freedom of religion, to the Industrial Revolution, which he claimed lifted 90% of the global population out of poverty.
He then vehemently condemned wokeism as a destructive force threatening the very foundations of the West. 'This is the great epidemic of our time that must be cured,' Milei asserted. 'This is the cancer we need to get rid of.' He further alleged that this ideology has infiltrated critical institutions worldwide, encompassing political parties, governments, global governance organizations, NGOs, universities, and media outlets. 'Western civilization – and even the human species – will not be able to return to the path of progress demanded by our pioneering spirit,' Milei warned. 'It is essential to break these ideological chains if we want to usher in a new golden age.'Milei did not shy away from addressing gender ideology directly, criticizing the left's radically liberal policies. He condemned leaders who 'attempt to impose the idea that women are men and men are women simply based on self-perception.' He raised concerns about instances where individuals claiming a different gender identity engage in harmful actions, citing examples such as a man dressed as a woman fighting in a boxing ring or a male inmate identifying as a woman committing sexual assault in prison. Milei used the case of a same-sex couple in Georgia, who were recently jailed for abusing and exploiting their adopted boys to a pedophile ring, to illustrate his point. 'I want to be clear when I say abuse,' Milei stated, emphasizing the severity of the situation. 'This is no euphemism, because in its most extreme forms, gender ideology is outright child abuse. They are pedophiles,' Milei declared forcefully. Milei, who considers Elon Musk a dear friend, passionately defended children against the perceived dangers of transgenderism. He expressed deep concern about the irreversible harm inflicted on children through hormone treatments and surgeries, questioning how a 5-year-old could possibly consent to such procedures. He also highlighted the potential for state intervention in cases where families disagree with these practices, advocating for parental rights. Milei emphasized the long-term psychological consequences for individuals who have undergone gender-affirming surgeries, stating that they may require lifelong psychiatric treatment to cope with their decisions. He criticized the silence surrounding these issues and decried the influence of a 'tiny minority' promoting misguided self-perceptions on the 'vast majority' of society. Milei, who assumed office as president of Argentina in 2023, has overseen a stabilization of the country's turbulent economy, according to The Associated Press. He expressed optimism about Argentina's future, referring to it as a 'new Argentina,' but remained pessimistic about the global outlook unless the tide against wokeism turns. 'Believe me, the scandalous experiments conducted in the name of this criminal ideology will be condemned and likened to those committed during the darkest periods in our history,' Milei warned. He concluded his speech with his signature phrase, 'Thank you all very much and long live freedom, damn it.' The Associated Press contributed to this report
