Mike Trout's $430 million contract with the Angels will set a record for team sports. However, Floyd Mayweather still holds the overall crown. His Showtime deal paid $450 million over three years.
Share to twitterUS boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr gestures during his press conference after winning the exhibition fight against Kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa of Japan. Star outfielder Mike Trout is on the verge of signing a 12-year contract worth more than $430 million,. The deal comes on the heels of massive contracts for other members of baseball’s elite, with Bryce Harper signing for $330 million, Manny Machado for $300 million and Nolan Arenando for $260 million.
The deals above are deemed by many as four of the seven richest contracts in the history of sports. The others to make the cut are boxer Canelo Alvarez, who is expected to earn $365 million over five years and 11 fights from streaming service DAZN; Giancarlo Stanton, who inked a 13-year, $325 million deal with the Miami Marlins before being dealt to the New York Yankees; and Alex Rodriguez, the only athlete in sports to sign two deals worth more than $250 million.
But left out of these discussions of the biggest contracts in the history of sports is the one that turned out to be richer than Trout, Alvarez and baseball’s other blockbuster deals.pact with Showtime covered six fights and 30 months. The value was never released publicly so it tends to get lost in the shuffle, but it guaranteed Mayweather roughly $200 million at a minimum, according to sources.
However, the deal offered massive upside, thanks to Mayweather's role as promoter of the fights. Mayweather cashed in with a pair of huge pay-per-view turnouts for fights against Alvarez and Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather cumulatively earned an estimated $450 million for the six fights.Canelo Alvarez : $365 millionANAHEIM, CA - JULY 28: Mike Trout #27 of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim after hitting a home at Angel Stadium.
