Mike Flanagan is working on a different Stephen King adaptation besides The Dark Tower, and his other King-based project is even more exciting.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Mike Flanagan is hard at work on two different Stephen King adaptations – a TV show based on The Dark Tower series and a movie based on a much lesser-known King story – and based on comments the director has made, the latter is even more exciting than the former.

Flanagan has become renowned for his adaptations of King’s work. Gerald’s Game established his ability to adapt both the terror and resonant themes of a classic King novel, while Doctor Sleep managed to reconcile King’s original vision of The Shining with Stanley Kubrick’s acclaimed but unfaithful film adaptation. Alongside his work on The Dark Tower, Flanagan is also working on a different King adaptation.

It would be great to see The Dark Tower adapted faithfully for the screen, but it’s such a behemoth, full of complex characters and mind-bending visuals, that it might actually be unadaptable. The same was said about Dune and The Lord of the Rings, and they eventually made for great screen adaptations, but every previous attempt to adapt The Dark Tower has been a failure. The Life of Chuck has a much higher chance of success – and, it seems, more passion from the director – than The Dark Tower.

Why Life Of Chuck Really Could Be Mike Flanagan's Best Movie The Life of Chuck is told in three acts, presented in reverse chronological order. It begins with an orphan named Chuck who loves dancing and sees a haunting premonition of himself dying of a brain tumor at age 39. The unique chronology and melodramatic narrative could turn out really cinematic in a film adaptation.
