Mikaela Shiffrin’s local legacy keeps getting larger.
Mikaela Shiffrin competes in an alpine ski women’s World Cup slalom race, in Soldeu, Andorra, Saturday, March 18, 2023. The Vail skier was named the Colorado Sportswoman of the Year for the sixth time on Sunday at the Sportswomen of Colorado’s 50th anniversary banquet, padding her status as the organization’s most decorated athlete.
The 29-year-old finished 2023 with 93 victories, seven more than Stenmark and 11 more than Vonn. The Sportswomen of Colorado Hall of Famer credited her mom, Eileen Shiffrin, for being “the coach who has probably been most impactful in my career, and not only that, without a doubt she’s been my greatest supporter.”
Shiffrin was one of 41 honorees at Sunday’s banquet, where awards were doled out to athletes of the year in a wide variety of sports as well eight special awards. Two athletes earned their third career awards to earn induction into the Sportswomen of Colorado Hall of Fame: Colorado Mesa University’s Marissa Gallegos and heptathlete Anna Hall.
