The Mid-Penn Conference left its mark on the PIAA Boys Cross Country Championships Saturday with Mifflin County's Carter Smith and the State College team winning 3A titles
Mifflin County junior Carter Smith completed a star-making rookie season with the individual championship in the boys’ 3A race to headline the season-ending event on the Parkview XC Course in Hershey .

“Last year I was doing 400 and 800 workouts to build my speed,” Smith said. “My plan for my first two years was to do track so I could build up my leg speed and then junior and senior year come out for cross country so I could get my aerobics up. I think it worked out pretty good.” Smith finished second to Isaac Oppermann by .06 at Mid-Penns, then was golden at the District 6 Championships on Oct. 26.Hershey’s Raman, the District 3 champion, capped his high school career with a bronze finish after placing 11th as a junior and 15th as a sophomore.
