Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), is projected to win a second term, giving the party’s rising star a decisive victory in a crucial state ahead of an expected run for president in 2024.
TAMPA — Supporters of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis crowded into a huge ballroom at the Tampa Bay convention center to help him celebrate his victory Tuesday night.
Two TV screens played Fox News, and loud cheers broke out whenever a Fox News announcer mentioned that a Republican anywhere in the country was leading. When Fox went to commercial, tributes to DeSantis played on the screens. Signs with one of the DeSantis campaign slogans, “Freedom Lives Here,” decorated the walls and the podium. The room was bathed in red lights, and white stars blinked on the walls and on the blue curtains behind the stage.
