Blue Jays build 2-TD lead in 1st half and hang on behind opportunistic 'D'
Truth is, the Blue Jays did a little bit of both by charging to the football with both aggression and numbers to force five turnovers, including four recovered fumble.
Dunellen showed its dangerous running capabilities in the second half behind seniors Chiekezie Ogbuewu and Aidan Sangiray, yet was again haunted by miscues, including a fumble at the Middlesex 19 on its second drive of thee closing half and trailing, 14-8. While Dunellen’s propensity to run almost expressly out of its rare double-wing offense is not exactly a secret, few opponents know the Destroyers’ game better than neighboring Middlesex. They were Thanksgiving Day rivals from 1998 to 2018 and regular opponents before and after the holiday series ended.
Ogbuewu did lead all players with 19 carries for 111 yards and a 37-yard TD run that capped Dunellen’s opening drive of the second half. But considering that the senior had averaged 244 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the last two games, his Thursday yield was the equivalent of being stymied by Middlesex.
