Wearing party glasses and a candle-covered crown, Walter Grondeski recently celebrated his 105th birthday among friends, family, staff and fellow residents at O’Neill Healthcare in Middleburg Heights.
Walter Grondeski, 105, sat between his grandson, Timothy Ditchey, and Judi Stupka, assistant to Mayor Matt Castelli, with a proclamation declaring July 11 as "Walter Grondeski Day" in Middleburg Heights.
He has been a husband twice, a father and grandfather. Grondeski worked as a yardmaster at Republic Steel and has outlived both wives and two daughters. “I have fond memories of being a kid and going to his house in Newton Falls,” Ditchey said. “It was always about being together for the holidays. We would have Fourth of July cookouts in his backyard.
