Like many others who found themselves working remotely, Linette Miller, 59, noticed that she had become sedentary. “It suddenly dawned on me how little activity I get every day,” Miller, from Orlando, Florida, tells TODAY.com. “I end up working overtime, so I was sitting a lot. I definitely put on some pounds, and I was concerned about it for health reasons.” Miller, who raised her granddaughter, worried about developing high blood pressure and how it could impact her longevity.
When a person makes an effort to walk more, even for short periods, there are a whole host of benefits, studies have found. Micro-walking refers to short walks sprinkled throughout the day. There's no specific definition of 'micro-walking,' but some research has shown it's possible to get a health boost from walking as little as 10-30 seconds. And it's especially beneficial for people who led previously inactive lifestyles.
