Wolverines AD and coach both release statements.

Connor Stalions, center left, watches from the sideline as Michigan hosts East Carolina at Michigan Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023. Jacob Hamilton | MLive.comNCAA fined Michigan tens of millions of dollars Friday “We appreciate the work of the Committee on Infractions,” Michigan’s statement read.

“But, respectfully, in a number of instances the decision makes fundamental errors in interpreting NCAA bylaws; and it includes a number of conclusions that are directly contrary to the evidence — or lack of evidence — in the record.Moore, who was already issued a self-imposed two-game suspension by Michigan, will also be banned from the first game of the 2026-27 season for a total of three games. Moore received a two-year show-cause order, but he will be allowed to fulfill coaching commitments and other athletically related activities. “It is never our intent to be in a position where we are accused of any rules violations,” Michigan AD Warde Manuel said. “I fully support Coach Sherrone Moore, our student-athletes and staff as they prepare for the season ahead. I appreciate Coach Moore’s continued commitment to ensuring his program operates in compliance with applicable rules. I acknowledge the Committee on Infractions’ decision to not penalize our current student-athletes by eliminating postseason opportunities; however, a postseason ban should never have been a consideration in this case. I fully support the university’s decision to pursue an appeal. Coach Moore and I will not have any further comment.” Michigan announces via a press release that it is appealing the NCAA’s COI because it “includes a number of conclusions that are directly contrary to the evidence – or lack of evidence – in the record.”Former head coach Jim Harbaugh received a 10-year show-cause penalty, on top of the four-year show-cause and one-year suspension he received last year for violations related to improper recruiting during the 2020-21 COVID dead period. Former Michigan offensive analyst Conor Stalions, who organized and carried out the sign-stealing scheme, got an eight-year show cause penalty. “I am glad that this part of the process has been completed,” Moore said in a statement. “I greatly respect the rules governing collegiate athletics and it is my intent to have our program comply with those rules at all times. I will continue to focus my attention on our team and the upcoming 2025 season.” Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti sent a letter to the NCAA Committee on Infractions last month, suggesting that Michigan’s football program should not face more sanctions related to the sign-stealing saga. The Wolverines open the season on Aug. 30 at home against New Mexico State and then play at Oklahoma, where Moore was an offensive lineman, on Sept. 6.If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.and agree that your clicks, interactions, and personal information may be collected, recorded, and/or stored by us and social media and other third-party partners in accordance with our
