Jim Harbaugh took responsibility for the hire of a legendary coach’s son following a major social media controversy.
Michigan had hired Glenn “Shemy” Schembechler — the son of longtime head Bo Schembechler — as assistant director of football recruiting butafter it was discovered his personal Twitter account was filled with “likes” of racist content.
“Once I became aware of things that were offensive — offensive to me, offensive to other members of our team — [we acted],” Harbaugh said. “We didn’t want that mindset around.”Michigan has dropped the third-party human resources group that vetted and cleared Schembechler, Harbaugh said, adding that the school needs to do better in the future to make sure it has suitable candidates.
