Michigan man indicted in alleged bomb threat to Toledo’s Fifth Third Field

A Michigan man has been indicted Wednesday for making a willful threat to damage a minor league baseball stadium in Toledo.

TOLEDO, Ohio - A Michigan man has been indicted Wednesday for making a willful threat to damage a minor league baseball stadium in Toledo.

According to the Department of Justice , 35-year-old Nikolas Samir Salemassi, aka Nikolas Ford, of Trenton, Michigan, made threats by means of explosives on April 28 to the Fifth Third Field on Washington Street. A federal grand jury returned an indictment Wednesday charging Salemassi with making threatening communications involving explosives. According to allegations in court documents, Salemassi called the stadium and to 911 emergency stating it was “not a joke” and that there were several bombs placed around the stadium.

The DOJ said law enforcement conducted a sweep of the stadium and did not find any indication of explosives. During the investigation, agents learned that Salemassi was in Toledo to perform at an open mic night as a comedian at the time and that he was on probation for a separate offense. An indictment is merely an allegation, the DOJ said, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
