The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office says in a news release that Deputy Brad Reckling died in the shooting.
OAKLAND COUNTY, Michigan — A sheriff’s deputy who was pursuing a reported stolen car was killed Saturday when the vehicle suddenly stopped and three suspects got out, opening fire on the patrol car and killing the deputy, reports say.
“Deputy Reckling was a nine-year veteran and a much beloved member of our team,” the news release says. “He was a friend and trusted partner to countless other members of our agency.”, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a news conference Sunday that the vehicle was reported stolen from Rochester Hills between 1-5 p.m. Saturday. The three suspects were arrested a short time later in Detroit, but no additional information has been released.
