Michelle Yeoh, star of ‘Everything, Everywhere, All at Once,’ recalled her storied career in her tearful best actress speech.
The dark Irish comedy was one of the night‘s big winners, with Gleeson winning best supporting actor and McDonagh winning best original screenplay. Another well-represented film wasbest breakthrough performance . The exuberant LaBelle delivered a high-energy speech, thanking the iconic director for transforming his life.
“I never thought I would fucking say this, but it’s because of Steven fucking Spielberg!” LaBelle said giddily. “I feel like I owe you my firstborn child.” Spielberg later took the stage to accept his award, after a theatrical, lengthy speech by presenter and“Siempre mi Anita,” Spielberg said to DeBose at the start. He then took a moment to note the surreal journey of“Never make a movie you’re certain about,” Spielberg said. “It’s the best shot at staying alive inside our art.”delivering the night’s closing speech.
So, will the NBR awards shift the needle for anyone in the room on the road to the Oscars, with nomination round voting starting this Thursday? The voting body is wildly than the sprawling Academy, but some of the folks in the room at the gala do overlap with the Academy, giving the night’s winners—like Yeoh and Deadwyler, two best actress contenders—a chance to stump hard and maybe change a few hearts.
