Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and independent MP Zali Steggall have received an explosive rebuke from Liberal Senator Michaelia Cash for their actions in a political week dominated by debate over visas for Gazan refugees.
Liberal Senator Michaelia Cash has torn into Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and independent MP Zali Steggall as political debate over Gazan refugees coming to Australia rages on.
Mr Dutton said the government's approval of almost 3,000 visas Palestinians from Gaza on"tourist visas" was"shambolic" as he claimed biometrics tests had not been collected and face-to-face interviews had not taken place for the new arrivals. "Peter Dutton has made it very, very clear. This is not about a person’s race or religious belief. It’s not about a political persuasion. It is about Australia’s national security. And Peter Dutton – he will always put the best interests of Australia and our national security first," Senator Cash said.
Dutton's blanket ban proposal on visas for Gazan refugees was met with fierce criticism from Ms Steggall in parliament on Thursday morning, where she accused Mr Dutton of racism over his hard-line position on the issue.
